Service Description

The Social Security Administration's Camden County Office assists applicants in filing for the following benefits:

 * Retirement benefits
 * Disability (permanent)
 * Survivors benefits
 * SSI - Supplemental Security Income
 * Medicare

People planning to apply for Social Security Retirement benefits should do so at least 3 months before they are ready to retire.

Disability payments are made to people with severe physical or mental impairment that is expected to keep them from working for a year or more or to result in death. Disabled people who have worked long enough under Social Security may qualify for disability under SSI if they have few resources and little income.

Open to individuals who meet any of the following eligibility criteria:

For SSI:
 - Low income people who are blind, have a disability, or are 65 or older
 - Disabled or blind children under the age of 18

For Disabled Children's Benefits:
 - Any child (under the age of 22) who is disabled
 - Individuals who were disabled before the age 22 and remain disabled

For Survivor's Benefits:
 - Widows and widowers of the deceased worker
 - Divorced spouses of the deceased worker
 - Children under the age of 18 of the deceased worker (including children who were disabled before the age of 22)

For Retirement Benefits:
 - Are at least 61 years and 9 months old
 - Are not currently receiving benefits Social Security benefits
 - Have not already applied for retirement benefits and want your benefits to start no more than 4 months in the future

Application Instructions

Applications for benefits can be filed in person at any Social Security office, by phone, or online. For in person assistance at a local Social Security office, please call the office first to schedule an appointment. For administrative inquiries, such as social security number printouts, replacement cards, and statements, recipients must use the website or call the hotline number. Military service members can receive expedited processing of disability claims from Social Security.
